What office application is best for daily documenting?

I usually do not create a “diary entry” of my daily life routines and events. This assignment has made me understand how dedicated a person has to be to document their lives on a daily basis. I have used word processor, spreadsheet, presentation, and database applications previously and I consider myself proficient in the use of them. I imagine that a person does not use all of these applications, but it was interesting to use all of these for one day’s entry. I am sure that usually people will use word processor to perform these types of tasks as it is more designed for this type of documentation. With word processor, a person could make lists or tables to document their daily tasks. However, with word processor, a person is not able to perform any calculations or gather any data based on the information they have typed in. Another use for word processing is collaborative writing and document sharing.

The use of spreadsheet is, to me, for a bit more advanced documentation rather than just writing down what happened. With spreadsheet, a person is able to make formulas that can calculate the total time spent on activities for that day and it can show which activity they spent the most time on that day. It also can put the information into data form for the person. However, it is more difficult to organize the information because if the person uses formulas, the formulas will need to change when the information is moved. Another use for spreadsheet is typically what some businesses may use it for, which is business management. It can be used to calculate daily sales, daily expenses, different items sold, and items manufactured.

A slide show presentation seems to be the most unusual method for documenting daily tasks. It is best used when you want to show a group of people what daily tasks you perform because you can use different pictures and animations to bring life to your documentation. However, powerpoint does not calculate data nor does it have a simple way to document information daily. Another use of powerpoint is the ability for businesses to create a video from their business reports in order to present the information not only to people who could attend the meeting, but also for the people who could not attend.

While completing this assignment, using the word processor was the best application for me to use, so I would recommend anyone who wants to document their daily activities to use the word processor.
